Definitely. See a pain management specialist. There are many meds that are either taken by themselves or in combination with other meds. The key is to keep your pain doc informed when something isn't working (after giving it a reasonable chance to work). This should be done only if surgery isn't possible or you still have problems even after surgery. Now, for my personal experience with these meds. For me at least, non-narcotics wouldn't touch my pain so I'm forced to be a long-term narcotic user. But used correctly, which I do, they are safe. I can't say I'm not addicted, but I have not had to increase my morphine dosage ever since I started with it. I don't "crave " anything and I don't have any weird side affects besides being a bit tired. Your reaction to narcotics may differ so be sure to follow directions.
